Cora Courtland Obituary

Cora J. Courtland, 78, of Twinsburg, OH., went home to glory at 4:41 am, Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights, OH. She was born on July 1, 1942, to Carrie Giles and the late Eddie Giles in York, Alabama. She was their only child. At a young age, she and her parents moved to Cleveland, OH. She attended John Hay High School in Cleveland, OH. Cora met her future husband, William J. Courtland, at the tender age of 14. They later married on May 30, 1959. From this union, they had four beautiful girls. Cora worked at Bobby Brooks, Mr. Coffee and National Acme before becoming a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Zion of Oakwood Village in Oakwood Village, OH, for many years where she also was a long standing member of the Mothers in White. As a Christian woman of God, she was a soldier for Jesus. She was kind, loving, patient, encouraging, a friend and confidant. Before becoming ill, Cora enjoyed gardening, shopping and spending time with her family. She never once complained. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 121:1-2a, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord." Cora was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Giles. She leaves a legacy that will go on for generations to come. Her voice may have been silenced but her precious memories will forever live in the hearts of her mother, Carrie Giles of Twinsburg, OH; her husband, William Courtland of Twinsburg, OH; daughters Annette Courtland (James Holder) of Twinsburg, OH; Corlette Courtland-Marshall (Russell) of Maple Heights, OH; Jeanette Triggs (Reginald) of Johns Creek, GA and Sharon Courtland of Twinsburg, OH; two granddaughters, Angela Harris (Jason) of Oakwood Village, OH; Ashlee Courtland of Twinsburg, OH; four great grandchildren, Aaliyah Courtland, Blake Harris, Bryson Harris and London Newman; and a host of family and friends.
