Les Martin Wernet, 61, died suddenly Monday, May 9th, 2022.
Born October 15 , 1961, to the late Ned Lester and Cecelia Wernet, the youngest of their 13 children, Les is survived by Jerryann Osenar, Lynne Higdon, Eric Wernet, Raymond Wernet, Mark Wernet, Joseph Wernet, Barth Wernet, Bernine Canape, Matt Wernet, Janne Smailes, and Cliff Wernet, as well as twelve nieces and nephews, and seven (soon to be eight) grand-nieces and nephews.
Les will be greatly missed by his family and many friends for his irreverent humor, musical taste, and wonderful cooking.
He attended St. Ann's Catholic Elementary School and Coventry Elementary School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where he was born; Lourdes High School in Oak Park, Illinois, where he was sent to live with his sister Jerryann and her young family.
He resided in/around Chicago for about a decade, working for a time on the trading floor at the Mercantile Exchange.
He later lived for many years in the San Francisco area, near his sister Deane (deceased) and his brother Joe, and for more years in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was near to Bernie & Ken Canape, and nephew Todd Wernet and his young family. It was there that he settled into a long-standing career as an indoor finish painter.
Les enjoyed fishing; music; cooking for family and friends, even for co-workers (when they'd chip in for the groceries); and a good bargain.
